Wireless Access in the Library |
||||
MSU-Bozeman is providing wireless access in many of the buildings on campus. The service is supported by the Information Technology Center (ITC). Visit http://www.montana.edu/wireless/ for more information. If you need help contact the ITC Helpdesk
1. Do I need to register with the ITC helpdesk to use wireless? Registering has many benefits and is strongly encouraged for students, faculty and staff; however there is an open “guest” wireless network.
Returning students may need to reset their MSU Domain password first at http://password.montana.edu/.
2. If there is an open “guest” network why should I register with the ITC helpdesk to use the network? The bandwidth of the “guest” network is limited and only web browsing is allowed.
The "student" network is much faster, has less restrictions, can print, access shared drives, and is more reliable. All you need to do to get set up for the "student" network is to bring your laptop to the ITC helpdesk. To get to the ITC helpdesk enter the Library from the South door (Back of the Library). 3. What is needed to use the wireless networks? All that is needed is a laptop with an 802.11b/g wireless adapter and a standard web browser.
4. Can I print from the network? All public areas of the library are covered. If you find an area that is not please let us know.
6. Wireless is great but my battery won’t last. Outlets are located around the railings near the coffee bar on 1st and 2nd floor, the back (south) wall and west alcoves of 2nd and 3rd floor, near the group study rooms on 3rd floor, the north wall of 4th floor, and the tables on “Clowder Flats” on your way to the basement. 7. Where can I get help?
The wireless network on campus is maintained by ITC. ITC helpdesk can be found by entering the Library from the South door (Back of the Library). Phone: 994-1777. Or email: helpdesk@montana.edu |
